frequently asked questions

Where is The Schriever Law Firm located?

We have full-service offices in both Spanish Fork and Lehi, Utah, and serve clients throughout Utah Valley — including Saratoga Springs, Eagle Mountain, American Fork, Springville, Mapleton, Payson, Salem, and Santaquin.

What types of cases does the firm handle?

We focus on three areas: family law, personal injury and trusts. We handle cases ranging from routine car accidents to complex litigation worth more than a million dollars.

Do you offer free consultations?

Yes — we offer free consultations for car accident and personal injury cases. For family law matters, we charge a consultation fee, which lets us give you focused, substantive legal guidance and a real assessment of your situation during that first meeting rather than a sales pitch.

Do you speak Spanish?

Yes. Our team includes a native Spanish speaker who holds a Juris Doctor and taught Spanish at Brigham Young University. Spanish-speaking clients work directly with a bilingual legal professional. We also have other paralegals and attorneys who also speak Spanish.

How much experience does the firm have?

Our founding attorney has more than two decades of experience, including 30 jury trials, dozens of bench trials, and hundreds of mediations. Our firm has recovered millions of dollars for injured clients across hundreds of resolved cases — with individual settlements up to $500,000 — and our attorneys bring backgrounds spanning the trial bar, federal bankruptcy court, judicial clerkships, and municipal government.

Will I work with one lawyer or a team?

Every case is assigned a dedicated attorney, an experienced paralegal, and a Licensed Paralegal Practitioner (LPP). You get the focused attention of a lead advocate, along with a dedicated team committed to communication, regular updates, and keeping your case on track.

Do you take cases to trial, or only settle?

We prepare every case as if it will go to trial. With 30 jury trials behind us, we’re ready to litigate when that’s what a case requires — and that readiness often strengthens our position in settlement negotiations.

Can I meet with an attorney virtually?

Yes. We offer virtual appointments via Zoom or Microsoft Teams, in addition to in-person meetings at either office.

What does it cost to hire the firm?

Our personal injury cases are handled on a contingency fee — you pay no attorney fee unless we recover money for you. Our fee is 33.3% of the gross recovery if your case settles before a lawsuit is filed, and 40% if it resolves after a lawsuit is filed. Case costs and expenses are separate, and all terms are set out in a written agreement you sign before we begin. Family law matters are billed hourly with an up-front retainer held in our trust account, and any unused balance is refunded at the end of your case — Utah’s ethics rules do not permit contingency fees in divorce, custody, and related matters. Your specific rates and terms are always set out in a written agreement before we begin.

How long do I have to file a personal injury claim in Utah?

Utah sets deadlines (statutes of limitations) that vary by case type, and missing them can bar your claim entirely. Because the deadline depends on your specific situation, contact us promptly so we can confirm the timeline that applies to you.

What makes Schriever Law different from other Utah Valley firms?

We keep full, staffed offices in the communities we serve — in both Spanish Fork and Lehi — rather than covering the area from a distant address. Our founding attorney spent ten years on the insurance defense side before representing plaintiffs. We assign every client an attorney, an experienced paralegal, and, where applicable, a Licensed Paralegal Practitioner (LPP). We also offer fluent Spanish-speaking representation from a credentialed legal professional. Few firms in the area combine all of these services and resources.
